What is a LCM to SCM Conversion?

Distances match between LCM and SCM — a 100 Free stays 100 m in both — so the only real change is the pool. A 25-meter pool gives you far more turns than a 50-meter pool, and each turn is worth a small push-off advantage.

This converter adds the short-course turn bonus by subtracting a stroke-specific seconds-per-turn value for every extra wall you would hit in the 25-meter swim (0.8 s freestyle/medley, 0.6 s backstroke, 1.0 s breaststroke, 0.7 s butterfly). The more distance, the more turns, and the bigger the difference.

Because turns vary from swimmer to swimmer, the result is a close estimate rather than an official equivalent. When you need an official time, use the governing body's own conversion procedures.

How do you convert LCM to SCM times?

Since the distances are identical, the converter removes the turn advantage of longer course — a stroke-specific seconds-per-turn value multiplied by the extra turns you save swimming in a 25-meter pool.

Is a long course or short course time faster?

Short course. More walls in a 25-meter pool mean more push-offs, so the same swimmer posts faster SCM times than LCM times for the same event.

How much faster is SCM than LCM for the 200?

Roughly a second for a 200 (4 extra turns in a 25m pool), a bit less for strokes with a smaller turn bonus. Sprint events gain less overall because they have only a couple of extra walls.

Do LCM to SCM conversions work for distance events too?

Yes — 400, 800 and 1500 all match exactly between the two courses, and each gains the same per-turn estimate across the full distance.
