What is a SCM to LCM Conversion?

SCM and LCM are both swum on the metric scale, so distances line up exactly (100 Free stays 100 m). The only difference is the pool: a 25-meter pool has more than twice the turns of a 50-meter pool.

More turns means more push-offs, so short-course meters times are faster than long-course meters times. This calculator estimates the difference by adding a per-turn adjustment — 0.8 s per extra turn in freestyle, 0.6 s in backstroke, 1.0 s in breaststroke, 0.7 s in butterfly and 0.8 s in medley.

For distance freestyle the same turn logic is applied: 400↔400, 800↔800 and 1500↔1500 all just gain the extra turns. Because the turn advantage differs from swimmer to swimmer, treat the result as an estimate.

How do you convert SCM to LCM times?
Because the distances match exactly, the converter simply adds the estimated time lost from turns — the number of extra turns in the 25-meter swim multiplied by a stroke-specific seconds-per-turn value.
How much faster is SCM than LCM?
Typically a few tenths for sprint events and a second or more for the 200s and up. A 100 Free might gain roughly 1.6 seconds of turns, while a 400 Free gains around 6.4 seconds.
Do the 400, 800 and 1500 convert directly in SCM to LCM?
Yes — those distances are the same number in both short-course meters and long-course meters, so only the turn difference is applied.
Why do swimmers prefer short course for fast times?
Every extra wall lets the swimmer push off and glide at speed. In short course you get that boost far more often, which makes times generally faster than in a 50-meter pool.
